Dr Frances Alimigbe is Assistant Chief Education Officer at the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
She has a PhD in Educational Administration and Planning and a BA in Education and English from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. She also holds an MEd in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Abuja.
At the TRCN, Dr Frances works with more than 2 million certified and licensed teachers across 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory. The TRCN determines who are teachers in Nigeria, and what standards of knowledge and skills are to be attained by persons seeking to become registered teachers and raising those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit. The TRCN also conduct research and proposes policies relating to teachers. Dr Frances has worked in the TCRN for more than a decade, from the core operational department to the department of planning, research and statistics. She and her colleagues at TRCN work closely with education stakeholders in ministries, departments and agencies across governments, international development partners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other funding partners.
Some of the key challenges Dr Frances plans to focus on during the fellowship are infrastructure and tools and teachers’ digital skills and capacity in schools, especially in rural areas.
With the fellowship, we form a community of practice where best practices are shared across borders and generate quality research ideas for improving EdTech transformation in teaching and learning globally.
