Dr Hasan S Alkhatib is a Professor of Information Systems & Analytics and an Iraq national advisor on digital transformation. He served as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq on Digital Transformation and Telecommunications between May 2023 and March 2026. In this role, he helped shape national strategies to modernise education, expand digital literacy and build a future-ready workforce. His work focused on integrating technology into education systems, promoting STEM learning, and developing large-scale initiatives such as digital academies to equip young people with practical skills for the digital economy.
Dr Alkhatib brings more than four decades of experience across academia, industry and government. He previously served as a tenured Associate Professor of Computer Engineering and has taught and supervised graduate students, including PhD candidates. He has also held senior executive roles at Microsoft, where he led global engineering teams and contributed to the development of cloud technologies. In addition, he is a successful entrepreneur who founded and led multiple technology companies, bridging innovation between academia and industry.
He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering and has authored more than 124 peer-reviewed publications. He is also an inventor with 74 granted patents in areas such as cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity and distributed systems. His work reflects a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and applying technology to solve real-world challenges.
Dr Alkhatib hopes to join the HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellowship to collaborate with global leaders, share insights from Iraq’s digital transformation journey and learn best practices in education innovation. He aims to apply these insights to accelerate inclusive, scalable and impactful education reform in Iraq and beyond.
