Chief Inspector for Secondary Education - Ministry of Education and Training, Eswatini
Martha Shongwe

Ms Martha Shongwe is Chief Inspector for Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education and Training in Eswatini. She has an MA in Education from Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

As part of her role, Martha co-ordinates all secondary school inspector activities across the four national regions. Her team oversees the quality of teaching and learning as well as the implementation of government policies. They also develop and recommend professional development plans for teachers based on the inspections.

Martha works closely with partner organisations responsible for funding and school management.

Martha is strong invested in making the Eswatini education system more resilient and is looking forward to working with regional peers to accelerate learning together. Her work in the programme will be passed on through the inspector network to all secondary schools in the country.

One of the areas Martha is planning to focus on during the fellowship is digitalisation of learning content on the Eswatini national learning management system (LMS) and navigating the copyright and platform requirements around this.
