Sindhu Prabhu Dessai

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai is the Deputy Director of Education in the Directorate of Education, Goa, India. Previously, she covered the position of Principal of the District Institute of Education and Training.

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai is one of the youngest recipients of National Award conferred by the Government of India in 2020 for her remarkable contribution in the field of education.

She holds a master’s degree in chemistry with Bachelor of Education. She is a Gold Medallist in Chemistry. Sindhu Prabhu Dessai is the Nodal Officer for National Commission for Protection of Child Rights from the Directorate of Education.

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai has 18 years of experience in the field of education which encompass teaching, curriculum development and handling administrative affairs. She has taught in many institutions across the state, from secondary to college level.

She has worked as a Senior Subject Matter Expert in Chemistry and English Reviewer in an Educational Software Company. She has developed the content (student’s material) for CBSE, Karnataka and Gujarat Chemistry textbooks. She has also developed curriculum for the State Board, AIEEE, AIPMT course.

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai was appointed as Teacher Grade – 1 in Chemistry in Goa on recommendation of Goa Public Service Commission Examination in 2009. She has carried out extensive research on audio-visual aids in chemistry. She has done extensive research in the field of education and has been the resource person for subjects like “Career Guidance, Women Empowerment and Leadership”.

She was promoted as school head of a Government Secondary School in 2016. The school won two National Awards for two consecutive years (2016–2017 and 2018-2019) conferred by Government of India under her able leadership.

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai was the Hub School Leader of 12 government schools in Goa, for school improvement. She was the First Hub Leader to introduce digital lessons in schools at primary level. Her school is the Pioneer in many innovative projects in the state like:

  1. Setting up an e-library
  2. Introduction to graffiti to create learning walls in the school
  3. Menstrual health management
  4. Introduction to e-administration
  5. New Educational Model during lockdown (key points are taken up by NCERT)
  6. Setting up of customised compost pit to decompose biodegradable waste

Three students at the school have been awarded by the respective ex-governors of Goa on different occasions.

She served as Vice-Principal of Government Higher Secondary for two years.

She has been nominated by the Government of Goa, as the executive committee member of Goa Samagra Shikasha Abhiyaan since 2018. She was the State Master Trainer during all the phases of the Online Training Program of teachers in the state on “Effective Planning for Achievement of Learning Outcomes” in 2020.

She was the Co-ordinator and State Resource Person for the training sessions on School Health Program organised by SCERT in collaboration with Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health Services, Government of India.

Sindhu Prabhu Dessai represented the state of Goa for several National Conferences among which:

  • Her case study as a school leader was selected to be presented at the first National Conference on Leadership Pathways for School Improvement, held in New Delhi in January The conference was organized by NCSL – NIEPA, a branch of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. She says she was privileged to be one of the 48 leaders, selected from all over India. She represented the state of Goa and Govt. High School Malkarnem and our school was declared as the “Centre of School Excellence”.
  • She was the only head of a Government school in Goa to present her case study for the state conference organised by Goa Headmaster’s Association in collaboration with NIEPA, New Delhi and Goa Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan in July August
  • Her research paper on “Role of leader in transforming the school” was selected to be presented for the National Conference organised by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training), New Delhi in February

She has written several articles in local newspapers on social, political issues and education related issues.
