Dr Sultan Al Kindi oversees four departments under the General Directorate of Curriculum Development. These departments include the Department of Citizenship, the Centre for School Textbook Production, the Department of Education Technologies, and the Curriculum Development and Studies Office. In his role, Sultan works closely with the heads of these departments to ensure harmony and efficiency between these divisions. His responsibilities include crafting the educational journey for grades 1–12, setting syllabi, overseeing the production of high-quality textbooks, and continually striving to produce cutting-edge technological tools and resources. Sultan’s leadership reflects his commitment to advancing education and ensuring it remains relevant in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Sultan has an impressive academic background, including a Doctorate in Education (EdD) specialising in Learning, Leadership, and Policy, which he obtained in 2023 from the University of Bristol, UK. He also holds a Master’s degree and a Bachelor of Arts in TESOL from the University of Leeds, UK, which he received in 2006 and 2003. Sultan’s journey in education started in 1994 when he obtained a Diploma in English Language Teaching (TESOL) from the Teacher Training College in Oman.
This early accomplishment highlights his long-standing dedication to the field of language education. Sultan held several key positions throughout his career, including Director of the Attainment Assessment department from 2012 to 2015 and Deputy Director from 2009 to 2012. During this time, he led a team responsible for evaluating student performance across Oman. Additionally, he has held roles as the Head of the Qualification Evaluation Section and Assessment and Examination Officer, contributing to national assessment policies and English language exams.
Sultan’s career began as an English Language Supervisor and Senior English Teacher, where he mentored teachers and taught high school students. Throughout his career, he has consistently participated in workshops, conferences and educational development projects, earning certificates of appreciation for his unwavering commitment to student assessment and English language teaching. Additionally, he has significantly contributed to developing English language coursebooks and various projects in Oman, such as national tests and English language reform, and implementing national curriculum standards. His extensive skill set further demonstrates his computer applications, collaboration and leadership expertise.
Sultan’s illustrious career in education has been coupled with a deep passion for the intersection of technology, research and learning.
